The Significance of Liu Zongyuan s People-Base Ideology: A Speech on the Third International Conference of Liu Zongyuan

历史上的文化名人对于现代社会有特定的意义,柳宗元值得千年之后的现代人们纪念和表扬,也正因为他是有巨大实践意义和有重大理论价值的思想的继承者和发展者,他的“民本”思想继承了先秦以来的“人本思想”,认为决定社会发展的是“生人之意”,为政之道是“利民”,官吏是“民之役”,这种思想在现代社会仍有着积极的意义。

Ancient famous people are of special significance for modern society.Liu Zongyuan,a successor and developer of the thinking with vital importance in both practical and theoretical values,is just one of such persons worthy of peoples admiring and study even today.His people-base thinking inherits the idea from the Pre-Qing Dynasty and he holds that the development of society lies in peoples willings,thus the authorities governing shall be favorable for the society because officials are nothing but servants of people.
