阐明了网络入侵检测系统的功能，分析了其固有弱点，提出了相应改进措施，并根据大中型网络的安全需要，设计了一种网络入侵检测系统的体系结构。

This paper introduces the functions of IDS, analyses its pitfalls, and proposes some methods to avoid these pitfalls. Then a design of architecture of IDS, which meets the needs of large networks, is presented.
