An Analysis of the Splitting Personalities of Lu Ji and Lu Yun

吴姓陆氏在孙吴时地位显赫,吴亡后中衰。为重振家族,陆机、陆云徘徊近十年后毅然仕晋。从其传世作品和行为看,二陆心态极其矛盾,有着高度的生存焦虑,人格实际上处于分裂状态。导致这种情形的原因,似可归于社会的无序和儒玄文化的冲突。二陆的命运可代表入洛吴人的生存境遇。

During the period of the kingdom of Sun Wu, the Lu's family was rather outstanding in social status. But all these changed with the fall of Sun Wu. In order to restore the Lu's family, the Lu brothers, Lu Ji and Lu Yun, decided to be officials in the Jin period after wandering for about ten years. According to their works and actions, we may draw a conclusion that their mentalities were rather conflicting and their personalities were splitting. This should owe to the disorder of the society and the culture's conflicting between Metaphysics prevailing in the northern and Confucism in the southern. Their fate may stand for the common fates of the scholars belonged to Wu region who went up to Luoyang to service for the Jin period.
