This paper deals with small animal hunting, particularly mice hunting of the Li ethnic group, and describes how such hunting has been incorporated into real life and how important it is to food supply. The reason why mice hunting could be established is that by doing shifting cultivation, it created a zone where such cultivation is possible and a field zone where wild animals could easily survive. “Big traps and little traps” are a system operated around cultivated field and their surroundings. They function as a means of incorporating wild animal hunting into an agricultural society.
