As of 2004, RENFE will take delivery of sixteen Velaro E type trainsets. They currently represent the most modern high speed trains in the world and are designed in strict compliance with the regulations now governing European interoperability. Train operation at top speeds of up to 350 km/h on lines with gradients as steep as 25‰ and at elevations as high as 1 200 m above sea level also place utmost demands on the electrical equipment on board. In-depth consideration must therefore be given to these requirements when designing and manufacturing the electrical systems and components.
