The synthesis of Liliat from tert-butylbenzene is described, p-Bromo-tert-butylbenzene derived from tert-butybenzene was treated with magnesium togive the Grignard reagent, which was then reacted with 2-methylaerolein to yield the title compound and the overal yield was 30.9%.
