鲁迅先生《狂人日记》中的狂人形象的雏形为章太炎,迫害狂患者的模特儿为阮久荪。小说“吃人”主题的现实基础是徐锡麟、秋瑾遇难被吃,历史基础是《通鉴》中记载的大量事例,分直接吃人和礼教吃人两种。小说形式上借鉴了果戈理的《狂人日记》。小说的直接促成者为钱玄同。
