In a study of the development of visualperception, deaf children from china andAmerica, ranging in age from 8 to 14,copiedthe Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure and laterreproduced it from memory.Chi Square andKruskal-Wallis H analysis revealed the ageof the subjects to be the most significantvariable affecting this measure of cognitivedevelopment. In a comparative analysis, theAmerican children's scores were generallyindicative of more sophisticated processingat earlier ages, while the Chinese children'sdrawings tended to be more accurate.Dif-ferences may be attributable to educationalpractices and early language training.
