Liu Chuanzhi (front), the co-founder and former chairman of Chinese computer maker Lenovo, and senior IBM executive Stephen Ward at a December 8, 2004 press conference on which Lenovo made the surprise announcement that it is buying IBM's PC business. Liu announced his retirement upon the purchase. He will be succeeded by current Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing. Ward has been named the future CEO of the new Lenovo. Despite the optimism of both Lenovo and IBM for the success of the acquisition, many critics view it as a highly risky move.
