终身教育是经济全球化，教育全球化的产物。党的十六大为大学图书馆员终身教育思想的确立提供了保证；现代科学技术，创新知识推进了终身教育思想的确定。由此提出——建立大学图书馆终身教育体系；明确大学图书馆员终身教育目标；开拓多元化的终身教育渠道；树立终身教育理念；建立完善、统一的终身教育管理机制。
Life-long education is the product of the global economy and education, the 16th session of the People' s Representatives in China offers us an assured idea that the librarians in universities must have the Life-long educational idea, the development of the technology and the knowledge also prompt the establishment of this idea. Therefore, the libraries in universities must establish the Life-long educational system accordingly; we should set up the practical goals and start perfect services for the higher education and establish a perfect and unified system of the management in the libraries of the universities.
