An Attitude to Literary Writing

本文认为,文学写作有一个对抗流行色的传统,它体现在作家写作的姿态上。以普通人的视角进入创作,要比说教者可亲。自恋式的独白没有真实的人生,重要的是也能残酷地审视自我。文人写作的迷津之处,往往是以虚妄为真谛,向世俗低头。真正的知识阶层拿起笔时,是不顾利害的。他们直面人间的一切,自由地往来于明暗之间。

In literary writing, an anti-vogue tradition is usually embodied in a writer’s attitude. Generally speaking, it is more intimate to write from the perspective of common sense than from that of didacticism. Narcissistic soliloquy makes no claim of real life. It is important that a writer makes a severe self-inspection, even if it is cruel. One of the difficult points of literary writing is that the writer usually takes vanity as truth, and bows to the worldly. The real intellectuals care little about worldly gains and losses. They face up to the reality of human life, and move freely between the worlds of light and shade.
