In this paper, an introduction of the situation, nature and characteristics of the course Strength of Materials was provided. The teaching method of ' student-oriented' and its application in the teaching of the course Strength of Materials were illustrated. The effects of this ' student-oriented' teaching method were analyzed , and an example of practice was cited to the further illustration of the application of this teaching method. The looking forward to the future teaching reforms was also discussed in the paper.
