Comparative Approach to Ideographic Functions of English and Chinese Phonology

本文从语言对比分析的角度对英汉语音韵的表意功能进行了探讨。文章主要分析了英语和汉语音韵的主要手段押韵和拟声方面的异同,通过丰富生动的语例及多重角度的分析,认为英、汉两种语言虽然在音韵表意的修辞方法上各有不同,但都是借助语言表情寄意的功能达到寓情这意的效果,赋予语言无穷的生命力与创造力,赋予语言妙不可言的音乐美与和谐美。

Based on the comparative approach of English and Chinese languages, the thesis aims at the research of both languages' ideographic function of phonology. By the specific and systematic comparison of the main aspects of phonology, that is, rhyme and onomatopoeia, the paper comes to the conclusion that although both languages have quite different ways of applying these rhetorical devices, they have the identical ideographic effect. It is these rhetorical devices that make the languages vivid and creative, musical and harmonious.
