评张培基的英译《背影》(英文)

A Critique on Mr.ZHANG Pei-ji's English Version of Bei Ying

朱自清是中国五四时期最出色的散文家之一 ,其代表作《背影》更是在中国散文中享有盛誉。该作品代表了朱自清的风格 :语言平实清晰 ,感情真挚感人 ,这一风格的重视应该是决定译文质量的关键因素。以信、达、切为标准 ,本文旨在对张培基的英译《背影》进行分析评价 ,并着重剖析其在词汇层、语法层和语篇层的风格翻译。总的来说 ,本文认为该译文之于原文 ,不仅内容忠实。

ZHU Zi-qing is one of the most distinguished prose writers during the May-Fourth Period.Bei Ying,as one of his representative prose,enjoys a high reputation in modern chinese prose.This prose features his individual style:plain language coupled with sincere emotion,which should be a decisive factor in the acceptance of its translation.Under the guidance of the Trinity Principle Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Closeness,this paper aims to analyze and assess Mr.ZHANG Pei-ji's English version-the Sight of Father's Back,stressing on the representation of the original style at the levels of lexicon,syntax and discourse.It is concluded that,although not perfect,ZHANG's version has generally achieved faithfulness in content,expressiveness in wording as well as closeness in style to the original text.
