文化影响并塑造语言,语言又反映文化。语言是文化的载体,又是文化的重要标记,体现了一个国家所固有的内涵。心理语言学家Rivers曾说:"语言不能与文化分离开来,因为它深深地扎根于文化之中。"据此,就语言与文化的密切关系,探讨英国英语到达美国新大陆之后经跨文化到文化融和所形成的一种特殊英语变体即美国英语的演变及其一些特点,并对英语教学与研究的启示发表一些浅见。

Language is influenced and shaped by culture,it reflects culture.Language is both the carrier and important marker of culture,embodying the intrinsic contents of a nation's culture.Rivers who is psycholinguist once ever said:'Language and culture are inseparable,language is deeply rooted in culture.'This paper attempts to explore the process in which British English is transferred to American Continent and has been evolved from crossculture to culture merging.Hence,a special American English variety appears.And some views on English teaching and research are also presented in the paper.
