The patricide plot in The Brothers Karamazov carries complicated philosophical and theological connotations. In this novel, Fyodor Dostoyevsky develops his thoughts on God's existence based on Job's bewilderment; he denies the rationalistic arguments for God's inexistence with the logical result of the hypothesis that God doesn't exist, which in turn confirms the necessity and importance of God's existence; moreover, he declares the way of salvation through love and belief to surpass survivorship. The novel reflects the deepest belief crisis, spiritual anxiety and affliction of seeking spiritual homestead in Russian society of the 19th century.
