The article analyses the changes undergone by the three key factors, namely Palestine, Israel and US, before and after the demise of Yasser Arafat. It points out that with Mahmoud Abbas's election as the President of the Palestinian Authority, which means the subrogation of the leadership of the Palestinian national liberation had been accomplished, Ariel Sharon's forming a new coalition government, and George W. Bush's successful re-election, the Middle East peace process are facing historic opportunities, and it's inevitable to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. Nevertheless, the three key factors, particularly Israel and Palestine, are also faced various difficulties, so it's easy to revive the negotiations, but hard to reach agreements on substantial issues.
