The Development Issue in the Age of Globalization

21世纪的国际环境发生了巨变。全球化趋势日益明显,经济发展不平衡持续加剧,恐怖主义威胁着国际安全;国与国之间经济发展差距阻碍公正、合理国际经济秩序的形成。不发达国家的贫困依然是全球性问题。发展经济学如何应对新世纪复杂的经济环境,不但是个理论问题,也是严峻的现实挑战。发展经济学应该为全球经济的均衡发展,为消除贫困做出贡献。这应是发展经济学在全球化时代研究的方向和服务宗旨。

The 21st century has witnessed tremendous changes in international political and economic milieu with economic globalization gaining a new momentum. At the same time, the imbalance of economic development between rich and poor countries has become greater than ever before. Rampant international terrorism has posed a grave threat to international security environment and different economic growth rates have impeded the formation of a just and fair global economic order. Absolute poverty of developing countries remains a global issue. Development Economics must adjust itself to this new environment by providing updated theoretical explanations for and new practical solutions to those outstanding issues like poverty, disease and slow economic development.
