摘要
华裔女作家汤亭亭的《中国佬》中“法律”一章,列举了从1868年到1978年美国移民法中有关华人的各项歧视性的法令法规,与作品中的家族故事并置,显得很不协调,但在一定程度上为家族故事提供了特定的背景和语境,在此基础上汤亭亭又想象式地呈现了家族中四代华人移民的血泪斑斑的故事,借此法律提供的背景,从而进入华裔族群的集体记忆。法律条例与文学想象互相支持,彼此相得益彰。
The Laws in Maxine Hong Kingston's works China Men lists discriminative decrees about Chinese from 1868 to 1978. It seems incompatible with the other parts in the works .The Laws offers background under which the author pours out family story, enters folk memory and even promotes the story to epic of overseas Chinese. Law and literature imagination back up and set off each other.
