叙述和描写是小说的两种基本创作手法,叙述主要是在时间维度上展开,描写主要是在空间维度上展开。文章认为在西方,从现实主义小说到自然主义小说直至现代主义小说的历史演变中,创作方法有一个基本的嬗变过程:由叙述向描写倾斜。

Narration and description are essentially fiction productive means . Narration is mainly spread in the time-dimension and description is chiefly utilized in the space-dimension .The artide thinks that there is a principally course of transmutation that is inclination from narration to description during the historic development of western fiction from realism to naturalism to modernism.
