A series of testing methods in analyzing the properties of synthetic thickener in pigment printing is described, which include the testing of thickening capability, rheological behaviour, resistance to electrolyte and resistance to dilution. The authors reviewed the influence of synthetic thickener on printing effect, i. e. , the clearness of pat-tern outline, brightness, handle and fastness. Meanwhile, trials had been done to the subject of the compatibility between black pigment and this thickener.
