This article discusses relevant problems of liability of compensa-tion for damage in carriage of goods by sea, i. e.,the legal character, constitutive condition, liability foundation, liability sphere and liabili-ty restriction. The liability of compensation for damage n carriage of goods by sea is a constitutive part of civil liability, and both share the same characters. However, the auther concludes that the liability of compensation for damage in carriage of goods by sea is a kind of special liability which is different from common civil liability.
