中国翻译活动经历了几次高潮 ,从早期的佛经翻译 ,经过西方的科技翻译 ,到近代的哲学、社会科学及文学翻译 ,每一次翻译高潮都呈现出很强的功利倾向 ,译学的发展表明这一现象具有正负双重作用。

The activity of translating in China has its climax for several times. Each climax of translation ——from the early translation of the Buddha classics through the translation of the Western scientific and technological books to that of the Western works of philosophy, social science and literature—— presents a strong inclination of utilitarian purposes. The development of translatology shows that this phenomenon has double effects.
