委婉语作为一种语言现象,普遍存在于各种语言之中。本文在委婉语的构成原则的基础上,探讨委婉语的语用功能及其在汉英礼貌上的不同反映,以便减少委婉语所导致的跨文化交际障碍。

Euphemism, as a language phenomenon, can be observed in all languages. This paper, basing on the discussion of the constructing principles of euphemisms, probes into the pragmatic functions and different reflections of euphemisms in Chinese and English cultures. This can contribute a great deal to the reduction of intercultural communication obstacles resulted from the use of euphemisms.
