The paper systematically demonstrates the research history,present situation,developing trend and significance of carbonate source rock from aspects such as the maceral classification,the dual property of maceral,the evaluating standards and methods about the abundance,type and maturity of organic matter,the hydrocarbon generating mechanism and model,the original situation recovery and lower abundance limit of organic matter,palynofacies,organic facies,the maturity and the past hydrocarbon generating records,and organic inclusion etc.
