就小说家兼诗人而言 ,罗伯特·格雷夫斯是 2 0世纪英国文学史上继哈代之后第二人。格雷夫斯的古罗马帝国三部曲开创了现代历史小说 ,他的爱情诗对英国诗歌作出了重要贡献。本文对格雷夫斯的小说和诗歌创作进行了较为全面的评述 ,认为他的历史小说在气势恢宏的画卷中展现了历史人物的政治生活、军事生涯和思想感情 ;他的爱情诗歌细腻地表现了对时代和爱情的深刻体察。
Robert Graves' historical novels have the following characteristics: minute portrayal of historical figures, realistic reconstruction of political intrigues, military adventures and everyday life of imperial Rome. His lifelong devotion to poetry made him a major poet of our age. This paper tries to give a comprehensive assessment of Graves' achievements in the writing of historical novel and poetic composition.
