This paper analyses the three namesakes of The Drovers Wife written respectively by Henry Lawson,Murray Bail and Frank Moorhouse and concludes that these stories represent the literary styles of different periods in Australian literature. The paper also suggests that uniqueness of the subject matter is the reason why writers of different periods have shown such great interest in the same title. The intertextuality of the three stories, however, has offered new perspectives for interpretation and appreciation.
