庞德对中国古典诗歌的巨大兴趣主要出于实用目的。他在《神州集》中对中国古诗的利用主要反映在三个方面 :他借中国古诗 (1)提高西方人对现代主义文学的鉴赏趣味 ,以实现“文化救世”的英雄主义理想 ;(2 )进一步发展“人格面具”技巧 ,表现现代人的独特感受 ;(3)给欧洲人以正视现实的勇气 ,鼓励他们在残酷的战争环境中生存下来。

Pounds pragmatic appropriation of classical Chinese poetry in Cathy is mainly reflected in three aspects: (1) by offering Chinese poems as a new model for English lyric verses, he tried to improve the Westerners' taste for Modernism, so as to salvage the decaying Western culture; (2) he further developed his'persona'technique, through which he effectively expressed the modern mans feelings of loneliness; (3) Chinese lyrics also served as a spiritual stimulus for the Westerners to survive the horror of the First World War.
