A Commentary on the Deep Correspondence

“深层对应”是邢公畹先生１９９３年提出的一种研究方法，目的是在语言比较研究中避免借词造成的干扰，这种方法现已成为我国汉台语研究界最盛行的学说之一。本文将指出深层对应在理论和实践两方面的欠缺，希望能够通过深入的讨论使相关的方法论变得精密起来。

The method of 'deep correspondence', initiated by Xing Gongwan in 1993 in order to avoid the interference caused by loan words in linguistic comparison, has become one of the most popular theories in the Sino-Tai linguistic fields in China. In the present paper the theoretical and practical weakness of deep correspondence' are pointed out, and the author looks forward to some thorough discussions to make the relative methodology more accurate.
