There have been many arguments about the existence and non existence of a standard English but no conclusion has been reached. American English is distinct from British English and the English which is spoken and taught in other countries has varieties with the variety of regions. Even within the United States and Britain, it is common to find many regional accents and expressions which are not used in other areas as they reflect the particular cultural heritage and moral values. Pronunciation that is not understandable is , and must necessarily be, perfected if the speakers wish to make themselves understood and if the listeners wish to understand (this being the fundamental rule of communication). The purpose of learning a language is not to produce right answers but to communicate with one another. This paper concludes that it is impossible to define which form of English is standard because reputable use of English varies from place to place and situation to situation as much as it does from one generation to another. Also, English language stands to benefit from this international interaction with the flux of fresh terms and phrases pertaining to new ideas and concepts.
