Being and Nonbeing——On the Essence of the Western and Chinese Cultures in the Light of English and Chinese Grammatical Difference

以往的研究主要着重于词汇的文化内涵、言语风格、语言的语用研究、非言语交际以及篇章结构等,对语法结构体现的文化特性讨论较少.本文试图通过对汉英两种语言在词法和句法上的差异探讨中西文化精神的差异.

Many of the previous intercultural studies in China have focused on the cultural connotations of words, discourse styles, the pragmatic use of language, textual structures and non verbal communication while very few have been so far dedicated to the exploration of how grammar embodies culture features. This paper is an attempt to clarify the essential difference in Chinese and western cultures which underlies the different grammatical structures of the Chinese and English languages respectively.
