摘要
本文从理论上探讨语法教学中语法和词汇结合的问题。自Sweet给语法和词汇划定范围以来 ,语法教学只注意结构 ,忽视系统 ,把语法局限于结构的描述 ,将词汇排除在语法之外 ,结果理论难以联系实际 ,语法教学无法收到预期的效果。这是语法教学的症结所在。语言本来就既是横向的又是纵向的 ,组合关系和聚合关系是语法的两个方面 ,两者相互界定 ,互为前提。只有兼顾组合和聚合 ,语法与词汇 ,语法规则和规则的应用范围 。
This paper deals with the relationship between grammar and lexis and its implication in grammar teaching.Since Henry Sweet made his distinction between grammar and lexis,assigning each its own domain,grammar teaching has focused on structure,to the neglect of system,restricting grammar to the description of structure,brushing lexis aside as irrelevant.This is where the crux of the problem lies.The result is that grammar teaching is put in a situation where it is difficult to integrate theory with practice,and consequently it fails to achieve its anticipated objective,namely,to contribute to the learners mastery of a language.We should never lose sight of the fact that language is both vertical and horizontal,that is,both paradigmatic and syntagmatic.The two aspects of language are mutually defining and should not be set apart.Only when we keep in view both grammar and lexis,the paradigmatic and syntagatic aspect of language,and the grammar rules and their spheres of applicability can we expect to succeed in grammar teaching.
