Metarepresentation is a universal phenomenon in linguistic communication, and metalinguistic function is of essence of language itself. The present paper offers a study of the major features of metarepresentational structures, with reference to overt and covert reported speeches, and its understanding and pragmatic enrichment. So, after the discussion of what mttarepresentation is, it concentrates the focus on its inference mainly within the relevance-theoretical framework.
