Another Central Committee: The Enlarged Conference of 1930

1930年中原大战期间 ,阎锡山、冯玉祥联合改组派汪精卫、陈公博和西山派邹鲁、谢持等在北平召开“中国国民党中央党部扩大会议”(简称“扩大会议”) ,欲另立党统。该会不仅通过宣言 ,而且组织国民政府与南京国民政府“争正统” ,制订《中华民国约法草案》以“争千秋”。以往囿于国民党党统观念 ,北平扩大会议未被国民党史所正式承认。本文即欲跳脱国民党正统观的束缚 ,正视当时中国南北分裂的政治现实 ,根据台北“国史馆”庋藏的《蒋中正总统档案》、《阎锡山档案》等原始资料 ,透过“争党统”、“争正统”、“争千秋”

The Enlarged Conference's full name was “The Enlarged Conference of the Central Party Headquarters of the Chinese Nationalist Party”. It was a conference jointly held by Yan Xishan, Feng Yuxiang, the Reorganization Clique (Wang Jingwei and Chen Gongbo, etc.), and the Western Hills Clique (Zou Lu and Xie Chi, etc.) in Beiping in 1930 with the aim of establishing another Central Committee. Constrained by the Guomindang's party orthodoxy, the Beiping Enlarged Conference has not been officially recognized in the history of the Guomindang. Based on the first hand data, such as the Chiang Kai shek Archives and the Yan Xishan Archives, preserved in the Academia Historica in Taipei, the author tries to shake off the yoke of orthodoxy, face up to the political reality of China's South and North division, and explain the Enlarged Conference in terms of three periods of “contending for party orthodoxy”, “contending for legitimacy” and “contending for posterity”.
