Introduce Xue Shengjin -- a Master Lacquer Painter in Shanxi

Mr. Xue Shengjin, holder of the title "Arts and Crafts Master of China", is the general arts director and senior aesthetic guider of Shanxi Pingyao (a county whose intact walled city is under the UNESCO’s world heritage list) lacquer (Group) Co., Ltd. For a number of years, Mr. Xue has delved into lacquer artifacts bequeathed from the past feudal dynasties, and restored the lost"tuiguzhaoqi" technique, a varnish process peculiar to Pingyang lacquerworks. He has also created the unique "triple gilding and triple coloring" method. A mghad of:bis works has won national citations. In 1997, he designed Nine Dragons Screen, which was chosen by the People’s Government of Shanxi Province into the h4t of gifts to be presented to Hong Kong Special Administra tive Region. The Beautiful Shanxi an 8- Panel screen, given by the Provincial gov- ernment to the World Hoticulture Expo, Kunming, was also painted under vision of Mr. Xus Shengjin. In recent years, under the tutelage of Mr. Xue, the company’s lacquerwares, including tourist souvenirs, paintings, furniture, and Other decorative objects, are wax.lug popular among collectors as well as utilitarians.
