A Comparative Study of Praise Act in Cross-cultural Communication and Pragmatic Failures

言语行为是语用学研究的核心内容。从文化语用学的角度对褒奖行为在东西方跨文化交际中表现出来的相似点及文化差异进行探讨可以发现 ,褒奖行为的相似点体现在礼貌待人、谦虚态度和协调和谐等方面 ,文化差异则反映在褒奖行为的方式、形式、范围、应答重点和应答态度等方面。

Speech acts are the main contents of pragmatic study. This paper discusses similarities and cultural differences of the praise act as shown in cross cultural communication between the East and the West in the light of cultural pragmatics. The similarities of the praise act are seen in courtesy, modesty and harmonious relationship. The cultural differences are shown in the approach, form and range of the praise act, and in the focus and the way of the response. Pragmatic failures that occur in the praise act are also analyzed through examples.
