Exploring the Modularity of English Linking Verbs and Their Syntacto-Semantic Features

本文以词汇论为切入点探讨了英语系动词的模块性问题 ,并在论述模块性的基础上对子模块中的动词分别进行了有代表性的句法语义分析。文章根据语义表征和句法特征将英语系动词分为纯系动词和半系动词 ;半系动词又进一步分为 4个子模块 :泛感官系动词、感官系动词、存现系动词和作格系动词。这些子模块中的系动词都具有其作为非系动词的语义表征 ;它的次语类特征既有共性的一面又呈现出个性的差异。动词模块的研究和描写对语言学理论、语言教学 。

this paper explores the modularity of the English linking verbs from a lexicalist perspective,and makes a representative analysis of the syntacto semantic features of the respective linking verbs in various modules The paper divides the English linking verbs into pure and semi linking verbs,and further divides the semi-linking verbs into four minor modules:pan sensory linking verbs,sensory linking verbs,existential linking verbs and ergative linking verbs Each of the semi-linking verbs has the same semantic representation as its non-linking counterpart,and has the same subcategorization features,though with idiosyncratic variations The exploration and description of the verb modules will be significant to linguistic theory,language teaching,and especially to the development of contemporary lexicography 〔
