On Juliane House's Model for Translation Quality Assessment

本文评介了当代美国著名翻译理论家朱莉安·霍斯 (Juliane House)“翻译质量评估”之理论。霍斯认为对翻译质量进行评估应该分翻译结果与翻译过程两种评估模式。根据原文与译文文本的目的功能 ,翻译可分为“显性翻译”与“隐性翻译”,对于不同的翻译类型应应用不同“质量评估”模式。霍斯的翻译质量评估理论对于翻译实践具有较强的指导作用 ,对于外语教学也有一定的贡献。

This paper introduces and evaluates Juliane House's Model for Translation Quality Assessment.According to House, the assessment of translation is distinguished between the evaluation of the translation product and that of translation process. She also distinguishes translation between Overt translation which remain linked to the SL culture, and Covert translation which is determined by the skopos of the TL text. Juliane House attempted to develop a model for characterizing the linguistic situational peculiarities of a given ST, comparing ST and TT, and making argued statements about the match of the two texts.
