摘要
得 DE " to obtain" is a linguistic sign which has a long history and has very complex usages. This paper will focus on the development of [DE + V] and [V + DE] constructions in which both the DE are claimed to be used as modal auxiliaries and indicate the notion of possibilities in Chinese throughout the history. [DE + V] appeared earlier than [V + DE] (Yue Junfa, 1984, Yang Ping, 1989, Sun Chaofen 1996, among others). Both constructions are rarely used in Mandarin but are till active in the Hunan dialects.
