Sorrow vs happiness ——A comparative study of the imagery of nightingale & skylark in English Romantic poetry

夜莺与云雀一直是英国浪漫主义诗人最爱吟咏的对象 ,但它们在诗歌中所代表的意象和含义却有着本质的区别 :在浪漫主义诗歌中夜莺的意象是多元化的 ,有喜也有悲 ;而云雀的意象则是一元化的 ,即自由和欢乐的象征。

Though both nightingale and skylark are well liked among the Romantic poets, however, their imagery and representation are quite different in English Romantic poetry. In English Romantic poetry, the imagery of Nightingale is multifaceted, a symbol of happiness as well as sorrow, while the imagery of skylark is always one and the same, a symbol of freedom and exhilaration.
