定量型研究以数据为基础 ,用数字进行论证 ,其哲学取向是实证主义 ,起源于自然科学研究。社会科学向自然科学借鉴 ,在很多领域移植了定量型研究的方法和技术 ,形成了地位确立的研究范式。从语言学主流看 ,真正的定量型研究不多。语言学中以数据为基础的研究采用的是语料 ,数字类数据用得少。语言学中真正意义上的定量型研究常见于心理语言学、社会语言学、第一和第二语言习得等。

Quantitative research is data based and argues with numerals. With a positivist orientation, its methods originated in natural sciences, from which social sciences have transplanted various techniques and established their own research paradigms. Quantitative research is rare in mainstream linguistics, though some linguistic studies are based on language data. Quantitative studies are mostly seen in some hyphenated linguistics such as socio linguistics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition and learning. Corpus linguistics that has recently gained currency belongs to quantitative research.
