Structure and Motivation of Harmonic Pair Words in Mongolian

蒙古语中的对词是一个非常独特的语言现象 ,蒙古民族对其中谐音对词的广泛使用体现出独特的思维方式及蒙古语的发展态势。首次提出“对词”和“谐音对词”这两个概念 ,并以大量的言语实例为依据 ,归纳、总结出谐音对词的构成规律和语义 ;进而以普通语言学理论为指导 。

Pair words are peculiar to the Mongolian language. The extensive use of pair words, especially harmonic pair words, reflects the particular thinking style of the Mongolian nation and the development of the Mongolian language. With examples, the present paper introduces the concepts of'pair words'and'harmonic pair words'for the first time, describes the construction and meaning of the latter, and then, in the light of general linguistics, discusses the causes underlying the formation and development of such a language phenomenon.
