摘要
在亨利·詹姆斯的作品中 ,小说《悲剧缪斯》一直显得有些受人冷落。早在 196 2年 ,评论家多萝西·克罗克就认为这种冷落“完全是不应该的”。遗憾的是 ,她并没有对其原因作出解释。笔者认为 ,除了作者娴熟的现代叙事技巧以外 ,批评家对于蕴涵其中的性别与殖民意识的忽视在很大程度上影响了后人对该作品的阐释。本文从探讨小说人物关系入手 ,揭示小说在展现性别意识形态的同时对英国殖民主义和强权政治提出的批判。
Henry James's The Tragic Muse has been much neglected both in regards to its narrative technique and ideological investigation. This paper attempts to explore the problems of gender and colonialism which are deeply embedded in its characterization and plot construction.
