摘要 The Shijiadi cemetery lies at Yutai village ot Jman town in Jmgznou distrct, Jingzhou city, Hubei province. A number of Chu tombs here were excavated in 1990--1998. They are all smallsized rectangular earth shafts, some having tomb-passages or niches and some being filled with grey earth or plaster. Most tombs contain a single coffin or an outer and an inner ones with a head cabinet or side cabinets in some cases. Among the funeral objects are pottery, bronzes, lacquered wooden articles, jades, stone artifacts and glasses. The pottery comprises ritual vessels in imitation of bronzes and utensils of daily use, and many specimens are painted in colors. The bronzes include containers, weapons and horse-and-chariot trappings. Judging from the shape of the tombs, the structure of the inner and outer coffins and the features of the grave goods, these burials are small-sized Chu tombs typical of the Eastern Zhou and much similar to the comteporary Chu graves in the adjacent areas, and belong to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods.
