LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE PAST CAN GUIDE ONE IN THE FUTURE——ANNIVERSARY RETHINKING OF KOSOVO WAR

科索沃战争是一场以美国为首的北约借口“维护地区稳定”而发动的以大欺小、恃强凌弱的侵略战争。它表明，冷战思维在当今世界仍然存在，并已危及地区稳定和世界和平，“新干涉主义”正是其集中体现。而科索沃战争不仅没有实现美国和北约的基本战略意图，反而激发了各种复杂的矛盾，使美国和北约处于进退维谷之地。

The article exposes that the US official propaganda of the socalled “ethnic purge” by Yugoslav regime and the “maintenance of regional stability” by the US led Nato was but a pretence for the latter to wage the war against Yugoslavia. The article says that the true aim of the Kosovo war was to force down the only country in southern Europe which had been refusing to dance to US and NATO's tune, overturn the Milosevic regime, further reduce Russia's international space of activities and create eventually a “free and democratic and united Atlantic community” with the United States as its head and NATO as its nuclear. Another topic which has been controversial up to now in the western strategic circle is whether the US led NATO forces have really won the Kosovo War. Now an increasing number of western strategists maintain that strategically it was a grand failure for the US and NATO although they have scored “victories” one after another tactically. The incurable “Kosovo War sequelae” have driven the United States into an abyss, a web of its own spinning. The military occupation forces (the bulk of which consists NATO troops) has committed nothing but deepened the ethnic contradictions, making Albanian splittists even more rampant than ever and the situation in the Balkans more unstable. The Kosovo War indicates that, when the mankind is going to enter the 21 st century, the Cold War mentality not only remains the same, but is further spreading and endangering regional stability and world peace. And the neointernationalism is exactly the typical incarnation of the Cold War mentality. The United States, a lonely superpower dreaming of being able to solve all kinds of international problems by itself, will eventually isolate itself either.
