The Inverse Application of Informativeness Principle and English Oral Teaching

According to Levinson informativeness principle, in ones speech, one should “make your contribution as informative as is required for the current purposes of the exchange.”(Levinson:1983) The inverse application of the principle is to make ones speech more informative than required. The aim of such application in English oral teaching is to make students talk more, go into detail in their narration, descriptions or arguments,the necessity of which is called on by some cases in our daily communications. The scheme theroy also sheds light on the possibility. Teaching materials again contribute to such application.
