福斯特有关圆形人物和扁平人物的论述已为我国广大读者所熟悉 ,然而他整个小说的思想及其根源却鲜有人问津。试通过对福斯特的小说思想及其根源作比较系统的分析 ,审视福斯特的哲学观、社会观和艺术观 。

This paper aims at a systematic analysis of Forsters views of the novel and their underlying factors. After a close examination of his philosophical, social and aesthetic views, the paper proceeds to look at the ways in which Forster grafts a Neo Platonic cosmology on to a fictional aesthetic scheme.
