摘要
It was at the beginning of 1990s that the late famous demographer Prof. Liu Zheng produced the concept of “Population Modernization” and emphasized that in China the modernization of population quality should be ahead of that of economy. At the gate to a new century, we examine again this important but immature topic and invite some views from demographers and practical workers. It is commonly agreed that the concept not only points to more scientifically the direction of population development but also offers a hint to the theroy of summarizing populatiion development in China. However, more efforts should be made in this field.
