The paper makes an analysis of the defects of the fixed block system,estimates the poten tial capability, and points out that the trend for block system is the movable block system. The author introduces the concept of the movable block system, structural installations, situations at home and abroad and the advantages of the movable block system. Also explored in this paper are the necessity and availability to develop and adopt movable block system in China. Key issues concerning research on movable block sysytem are raised and suggestions made.
