统战工作的特点，在不同时期有不同的内涵。党的十五大以来，我国的统战工作在以邓小平理论和党的基本路线指导下，不断取得新的进步，表现出了与以往不同的新特点。新形势下的统一战线是社会主义市场经济条件下的统一战线；是有中国特色社会主义建设处在重大历史关头的统一战线；是党外代表人士实现了新老交替的统一战线；是“一国两制”条件下的统一战线；是国际、国内复杂环境下的统一战线。
